To All The Boys I've Loved Before
Honestly, I've been doing way better on my reading goal so far than I thought I would. I've already knocked off a few books from my list on GoodReads, and usually end up reading more than just one chapter every day. The last week of break, one of the books that I checked off my list was To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han. I had kind of half-watched the movie on Netflix with my roommate last year, but I didn't really pay attention or know what was going on so I basically took in nothing from it. But everyone loved and raved about the movie so much that I decided to add the book to my reading list.
Well after reading the first book, I decided to read the next two in the series, even though I wasn't originally planning on it. And, to be honest with you, the first book in the series was actually my least favorite. And my favorite book in the series was the last one, Always and Forever, Lara Jean. I literally stayed up until after midnight to finish it because I was getting really invested in the storyline!
Maybe it's because the first two are very centered around high school drama, whereas the last one really talks about the struggles of finding a and applying to college, and growing up (wow that sounded cheesy, sorry). I'm a senior in college and although I'm not like "above" reading books centered around high school, the first two did seem a little childish to me. Although the writing was great and all of the characters were developed very well, so there was definitely a reason I kept up with the series and read all three. Plus, the first book ended on a cliffhanger and I had to know what the outcome was.
I also really liked how each book truly seemed like a continuation of the one before it. Most sequels will basically re-explain every character and situation from the previous book, where as this series doesn't, and I liked that. Mainly because I read them all back to back, and it would have been very boring and repetitive to re-read something that had just happened.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book series. It is super corny in a rom-com type of way. But the writing is great and it was a super easy, light, fun, and entertaining read. I 8/10 recommend this series!
