What's Keeping Me Sane Right Now
Hello everyone! Today is the start of Week 4 of working from home, and as of today, Missouri has implemented an official stay at home order. It's definitely a little scary and crazy out there, but I thought I would share some things that have been keeping me sane and helping me keep my mind off of all of these crazy things going on in the world right now.
PODCASTS // I've always loved podcasts, but I am loving them even more now! I pretty much always have one on when I'm doing something around the house, taking a shower, even just sitting and playing on my iPad with one on! I'm currently subscribed to The Morning Toast, Girls Gotta Eat, Potterless, My Favorite Murder, Gals on the Go, and Office Ladies. I pretty much always have one on hand and ready to listen to, and it's nice to get some insight on other people's lives and just hear them talk about something other than the virus for an hour!
CHILL HITS PLAYLIST ON SPOTIFY // This is my favorite playlist to have on while doing some work. It has so many popular songs by popular artists, but with a much more laid back vibe. If a song is upbeat and dancey, I'll want to jam and focus on the song instead of what I'm working on! That's why I love this playlist. They're still the popular songs and artists that I love, but they're much easier for me to enjoy in the background while I'm getting some work done. It makes me feel more productive, too, since I want to keep listening to it, which makes me get more work done!
WII // Yes this is very random, but it has changed the social distancing game for my family. We bought a refurbished Wii on Amazon since ours didn't work anymore and we have been loving it. We play Wii Sports and Mario Kart almost nightly at this point, and I bought Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 on Amazon as well and have been addicted to it! Such a great way to spend time with the other people you are quarantining with while having so much fun and passing the time! My mom and I even broke out Just Dance 2 and we used that as our work out one day! It was so much more fun and really got our hearts pumping! Highly recommend breaking out your Wii or other old video game console and playing some games!
WORKING OUT // I usually struggle with working out at home and need a class to motivate me, otherwise I'll just want to give up and stop the whole workout. Now that I don't have a choice, I've been really trying to motivate myself to do at least 30 minutes of some sort of activity, no matter how big or how small. Originally I was only going to try and workout for five days a week, but I've been working out every day because it makes me feel good and brings a little more normalcy into my routine. I even got a yoga mat from Amazon to start working out outside when it's nice out, and that helps even more! My favorites have been Xtend Barre on Open Fit and MadFit on YouTube.
E-BOOKS // I've always loved reading, but reading has been such a great way to pass the time and immerse myself into a different world than what's going on right now. I use the app "Libby" to download e-books from my library and reading them on my Kindle app. Amazon also has a lot of their Kindle books cheaper than usual if your library doesn't have a book that you want or you don't want to wait long for one. I just read on my Kindle app on my iPad and I've been loving it! I genuinely look forward to reading more of whatever book I'm reading every day, and that motivation is something getting me through.
FACETIME DATES WITH FRIENDS // As much as I love my family and I love being with them, sometimes it's nice to talk to someone who is not in my house! It's nice to check in with them face to face and not just over text, and adding wine is definitely a bonus (if you are of legal age of course). It's definitely not the same as actually seeing them in person, but it definitely helps!
BOARD GAMES // When we're not playing Wii, we've been playing board games together! The other day, we brought Yahtzee outside and played at a table in our driveway and we had a blast! We played some music, brought the dog outside, and just enjoyed the spring weather. We had so much fun and definitely want to make a point to do this more in the coming weeks.
FIVE MINUTE JOURNAL // I got the Five Minute Journal for Christmas this year and I've been absolutely loving it. It's a guided journal with prompts that you fill out every morning and night to help you start and end your day with gratitude. Especially in these difficult times right now, it's been so helpful thinking about the little things in my home every single day that have made my day better. It brings some light to the situation and I highly recommend if you are interested or have the means to order!
What's keeping you sane right now? Anything new I should know about?
xoxo, Hannah
