Our Thanksgiving Charcuterie Board
One thing that I’ve always been obsessed with are Charcuterie boards. Cheese is one of my favorite foods, and all the different combinations on one plate make for a great appetizer. I’ve even gone out with my mom and all we’ve eaten is the cheese board and been full and satisfied!
I’ve been wanting to make our own charcuterie board since over the summer, and we’ve just never had a good time to do it. My family is very small, so most of our gatherings are very informal and we didn’t want our board to go to waste. We hosted Thanksgiving at our house this year, and my mom and I thought that this would be the perfect time to finally break out the cheese board. We did spend quite a large amount on everything for the cheese board, but it was so worth it and it all went over well.
CHEESE
Brie // This was probably everyone’s favorite out of the entire board. My mom topped the brie with cranberry sauce (not the jelly, the regular sauce), wrapped it all in croissant dough, and baked it. Oh. My. God. It was the best part of the whole plate for me and I want to make this again ASAP. Highly recommend!
Smoked Gouda // We had two smoked goudas on our board. We had the normal block of smoked gouda, and then we also found gouda that was pre-cut into little Christmas trees. They were so cute and both types were a huge hit! The little trees had more of a parmesan taste to them, but that ended up being a plus since we didn’t have parmesan on the board and it added a little more diversity.
Smoky Pepper Jelly Goat Cheese // I had never had goat cheese before, but my mom loves it and almost every article I read said that goat cheese is essential to a charcuterie board. After trying this cheese, I have realized that I am definitely a goat cheese person! The flavor was different and added a lot to the board, so goat cheese will definitely be a stable in future charcuterie boards for us.
Boursin Garlic and Herb // This was by far my favorite thing on the entire board. It was so light and the flavor was amazing and I need this exact cheese on every single charcuterie board from now on!
Horseradish Spread // I am definitely not a horseradish fan so I didn’t try this one, but this one was both my mom and dad’s favorite part of the board. It was definitely a huge hit and even though I’m not a fan, this will definitely be a staple for us in the future as well.
MEAT
Summer Sausage // Almost every charcuterie board I’ve had has had some sort of sausage on it. My mom and I decided to go with the classic summer sausage so as to appease everyone’s tastes. It was definitely a big hit with everyone and is definitely a great staple for a classic charcuterie board.
Prosciutto // Prosciutto is one of my favorite meats (definitely the Italian in me lol), and I had been requesting to have this on the board since day 1. We rolled it into smaller pieces and placed them throughout the board, and it looked (and tasted) great.
Salami // This came on the assorted package that the prosciutto came in, but we were definitely not complaining! This is another classic charcuterie staple that we knew we had to add and we were not wrong!
EVERYTHING ELSE
Hot Pepper Bacon Jam // This was another big hit with everyone. Every charcuterie board needs some sort of jam to go with both the sweet and salty aspects of the board, and this bacon jam was perfect. It was sweet but also had a spicy kick to it without being overly spicy. We will definitely be purchasing this again.
Fig Paste // Figs was another item that I had seen on almost every article when doing my research on charcuterie boards. Instead of using figs, we used this fig paste which was very thick and a little hard to spread, but it tasted great and we didn’t have too much of it left.
Stone Ground Mustard // I’m not really a mustard fan so I didn’t have any, but the mustard is one of my mom’s favorite parts so this was another no brainer. Everyone who had some said it tasted great, so this will also be included in future charcuterie boards.
Baby Pickles // For a little crunch, we had a small bowl full of tiny pickles for people to snack on. Again, not a big pickle fan, but everyone else loved them!
Grapes // We filled the empty space that wasn’t filled by something else with little bunches of grapes. These didn’t get eaten as much as I thought, but people did like them and I think we would have some again, just maybe not as many.
BREAD & CRACKERS
French Crostinis // This was my bread of choice! They were seasoned with olive oil which actually brought out a lot of the flavors in the cheese, and the crunch was great. I even ate some on their own without any toppings!
Baguette // We bought one of those baguettes that are premade, but just need to be popped into the oven for a few minutes. This went nicely with the bacon jam and the melted brie.
Pepper Crackers // I think this was the aspect of the entire charcuterie board that we liked the least. The crackers were fine. They were a little plain, but overall the taste was fine. What we really didn’t like was how thin and frail the crackers were. We could barely put or spread anything on them without breaking. We could barely even open the package without them crumbling! Needless to say, this will be a skip for the next one.
Triscuits // We redid the board for our family leftover night, and my grandparents brought over some Triscuits for us to eat the cheese with since the pepper crackers weren’t working out. This will probably be our cracker of choice for the next charcuterie board we make.
We loved making a charcuterie board for our Thanksgiving, and are already planning what we want to do for the next event we host! Hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving!
