Self Care Summer
Hello everyone and happy summer! I'm still furiously job searching, but since I currently am unemployed, I am trying to take time for myself and do things that are good for me and my body since that will be pretty hard for me today whenever a job or internship opportunity pops up. I watch Danielle Carolan on YouTube (seriously check her out, love her) and in one of her videos she's talked about doing a "self care summer". She's doing things for herself and doing what makes her feel good.
So I thought I would come up with a little self care summer routine for myself! All of these things take very little time, so I'm trying to incorporate them during my busy day of running errands for my parents, job searching, going on interviews, and seeing some friends from high school. So although each day is a little different, here are somethings that I am incorporating throughout my summer!
ONE // Drink Lemon Water
A lot of people that I watch on YouTube have been starting the Kenzie Burke 21 Day Reset Challenge. I'm definitely trying to be healthier this summer, but don't have time to do the whole Reset (plus I do love some carbs😬). One of the things that the reset requires is drinking hot lemon water every morning. So, every morning, the first thing I put in my body in the morning is half a lemon cut up in my Yeti water cup and drink that. It genuinely makes me feel so good, and even if it really doesn't do all that much, I at least feel like I'm doing something good!
TWO // Healthy Breakfast
After I have finished my lemon water, I next make my breakfast. Some times I have over night oats that I made the night before (SO GOOD and keep me full for a LONG time!), scrambled eggs, avocado toast, a smoothie, or even some multi grain cereal. All of these make me feel good, not bloated and gross, and keep me full until around 1pm when it's time for my lunch!
THREE // Hot Coffee
I honestly prefer iced coffee, but making cold brew is a much longer process to make at home and I go through so many bottles of pre-made cold brew that it makes more sense and I save more money by making coffee at home. My dad is a HUGE coffee guy, and we honestly don't even have a Keurig in our house anymore. We buy whole bean coffee, grind the beans ourselves, and then make pour-over coffee. It's seriously a game changer and I'll never have Keurig coffee again! I also am trying to be able to drink black coffee. So no more sweetener, and having very little almond creamer in the coffee. It is definitely a process but we are getting there and it is a HUGE improvement from the super sweet, sugary coffee that I was drinking a year ago.
FOUR // YouTube
I talk about YouTube A LOT on this blog, but because I love watching it so much. I usually use the morning while drinking my drinks and eating my breakfast to catch up on my subscription box. I honestly haven't been watching Netflix lately because I've been watching YouTube and I'm not mad about it. The only non-YouTube thing I have been watching lately is The Bachelorette on Hulu the day after it airs. Totally my guilty pleasure, and I'm LOVING Hannah B as the Bachelorette more than I though I would!
FIVE // Working Out
Now that I am out of college and will no longer be dancing like I have been for my entire life, I wanted to get into a good workout routine to start building the habit. To be honest, I hate working out at home. I don't know why, I think I just feel like I'm not in the right environment and I actually really like using the machines at the gym. But, since I don't have a steady income right now to pay for a gym membership or a membership for workout classes, I've been working out at home. But, I'm loving the Workouts for Women app. I talked about this in my May Favorites post, but I'm seriously seeing a difference and feeling so much stronger. Although working out at home is not my favorite thing, it's a little more doable with the app and I still get a great sweat in, and feel good.
SIX // Self Tan
After working out and showering, I like to self tan twice a week. It has been CRAZY rainy here in St. Louis and I've only been in my pool once this whole summer. Since I haven't had a lot of opportunities to lay out, I like to self tan to get a base and at least feel good for the summer time.
SEVEN // Work
I then use the rest of the afternoon to have lunch (lately been a salad, or some avocado toast), and work on cover letters, job searching, applications, and blog things. It makes me feel so productive and I love getting to be creative even though I am not employed yet. This blog is such a creative outlet for me, and since I am out of college, I have more time to devote to it.
EIGHT // Reading
I'm pretty sure this past semester, I only read two books for pleasure. I try to read at least 20 pages a day to meet by goal of 25 books this year as well as getting back into reading for pleasure since it used to be one of my favorite things to do. I also got behind on my "Read the Bible In One Year" plan, so to get back on track with that I have been reading two sections a day instead of one so that I can hopefully get caught up. But even if it takes me more than a year and I don't get caught up, I'm still proud of myself for getting back into it and getting more in touch with my faith.
Let me know in a comment what you guys are doing to have your own self care summer!
