What I Read in July

Before we get into the post, I want to apologize for my all over the place schedule right after I said I was going to start posting every Tuesday and Friday!  I've been in a little bit of a lazy/unproductive funk since I got back from vacation.  I honestly have not felt like writing, and I do apologize for it.  I'm feeling a little more productive now and ready to get back to my creative outlet, and there will be some good posts coming up during the regularly scheduled Tuesdays and Fridays!  So, we are going to start out those really good posts with what I read in July!

I read some pretty awesome books this past month, and I am so excited to share them with you!  I gave all of these really high ratings on Good Reads and highly recommend them if any of you want to read them.  So, let's just jump right in to what I read this month!

GIRL STOP APOLOGIZING by RACHEL HOLLIS // 3.5 out of 5 stars

I read Rachel Hollis's first book, Girl Wash Your Face and I really enjoyed it!  So when I stumbled upon the sequel at Barnes and Noble, I knew that I had to read it!  I really enjoyed this one as well, although it felt a little "braggy" to me.  Although she gave some great tips and I felt like someone was sitting me down and motivating me, it was hard to relate.  She kept talking about everything she had accomplished and her traumatizing childhood, and although I felt for her and think she is doing some great things, I couldn't relate to it at all.  It was still written very well, just something to keep in mind if you go to read it.

THE PERFECT COUPLE by ELIN HILDERBRAND // 5 out of 5 stars

This is honestly my favorite book that I have read all year so far!  So many people have been talking about this book and saying how great of a summer read it is, so I purchased this from Barnes and Noble to read during my Rhode Island trip.  I started it about a week before I went on vacation and had to make myself stop reading it so that I wouldn't finish it before my trip!  It's about a girl who is getting married on Nantucket, but the night before her wedding, her maid of honor washes up dead on the shore.  The wedding is cancelled and has now turned into a murder investigation.  Secrets about each of the characters come out throughout the book making it juicier and juicier as the book goes on.  Loved this book so much and I can't wait to read more of Elin Hilderbrand's books.

THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A F*CK by MARK MANSON // 4 out of 5 stars

This is another book that I have seen people talk about a lot, so it was quickly moved to the top of my reading list.  I have been trying to incorporate a nonfiction book in between every fiction book that I read, and I really enjoyed this one.  This is very different from other nonfiction books because instead of telling people what to do to have a better life, he talks about traits and mindsets to let go of.  The chapter that really stick with me the most was actually the last chapter where he talked about death.  Not going to give it away, but it really is a kick in the butt to not waste time and wait to do what you love or pursue your dream because you really do only get one life and the length of your life is not promised.

I have already finished one book for my August reading, and am very excited to get back into writing!  Let me know what books you have read lately that you loved!

xoxo, Hannah
