Five Tips For Stressful Days

As a second semester junior in college, I definitely know stress!  On top of my classes and homework, I also work on campus, am in a sorority, dance five times a week, and keep up with my chores at home.  This week in particular was incredibly hectic with two exams and three assignments due, on top of my normal weekly schedule.  Needless to say, I was stressed out and on the phone with my mom basically 24/7.

So what are the best ways to deal with your stress?  Here's what I do:

ONE // Don't Nap!

This week I have been so tired with my crazy schedule and I haven't been sleeping a whole lot.  So I napped twice.  And both times, I woke up feeling awful and even more stressed out and frantic.  When you're not getting enough sleep and you take a nap, your body thinks it's going into a deep sleep, like when you go to bed for the night.  So then when you wake up later after not getting a full night's sleep, your body punishes you.  So seriously, don't nap when you're stressed out and sleep deprived.  Your body will not thank you later!

TWO // Study in Bed

Okay, I know this is so frowned upon, and I honestly hardly ever do it, but sometimes you just need to be under the covers, in your own bed, and a calming study playlist on in the background.  I feel so much more productive when I'm in a good environment and comfortable, and nothing is more comforting than your bed.

THREE // Take a Shower Break

This past week, I had to plan out when I would shower and would seriously dread it.  But the minute I was in there, I didn't want to leave!  The warm water will help you relax so much, and afterwards you will feel so clean and refreshed, and ready to be productive again.  And if you're really feeling it, shave and wash your face, and make your whole body feel even better for yourself!

FOUR // Treat Yourself

Definitely don't go too crazy, but definitely treat yourself a little!  I usually go to Starbucks and grab an iced coffee and a breakfast sandwich (and sometimes even a cake pop) as a little treat myself to really get my morning started on the right foot.  With the right food in you in the morning, you'll feel even more energized and ready to go.

FIVE // Dress for Success

When I'm stressed and not feeling myself, all I want to do is wear yoga pants and a giant sweatshirt.  But honestly, that makes me feel even more gross.  Wear a cute sweater and some boots to class or to the library, or maybe even a dress if you're really feeling it.  I dressed up a little bit for work and class on Wednesday and most of my friends commented on it, making me feel good.  Even if you don't get a comment, just the act of dressing up a little can lift your entire mood!
